Mustang News, May 1, 2020

Good afternoon Mustang family!

As we adjust to a new normal, parents everywhere (including me) are gaining a renewed sense of appreciation for the hard work and dedication of our children’s teachers. This realization comes as we prepare to celebrate our teachers during National Teacher Appreciation Week. While we will miss the opportunity to shower our teachers with flowers, treats, and lunches, we hope that you will join our efforts to celebrate our teachers digitally. To participate in our school-wide effort, please take a photo of your children with a sign showing their love for their favorite Mustang teachers and email to our school counselor, Donna Adams, at dadams@ycsd.york.va.us by Wednesday, May 6th. She will turn these photos into a video that will be shared with our staff at the end of the week on our website and social media accounts. If you prefer a more private expression of your appreciation, our teachers would love fun emails! If you prefer to send a handmade card or picture, please send it to the school at the attention of the teacher. We will see that it reaches the teacher!

Student Material Distribution

This week, our staff will begin carefully preparing student materials for distribution while following social distancing and hygiene precautions. We plan to distribute materials to families in June after yearbooks, spring pictures, promotions certificates, and other end of the year goodies are ready. This will prevent families from making multiple trips to the school. In the event that you need something that was left at school prior to June, please email Christine Ilardi at cilardi@ycsd.york.va.us. We will schedule a no contact pick up as soon as the requested materials are prepared.

Please hold school library materials at this time. We will have collection bins available at a later date.

Resource Notes

We will be participating in National Virtual Field Day on May 8th. We will be posting information about field day events on our Facebook page throughout the week. All events will use materials that are easily found in the home. We hope all families will take a break from school work on Friday to participate in this special end of year event! While this may be a non-traditional expression of field day, we are confident that our students will always remember the field day that they spent at home with family! We welcome you to share photos to our school Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Mount-Vernon-Page-100380688047149/

Warmly,

Kristin Bolam, Principal
