• SOA One-Act Gallery

This gallery contains some of our students' most recent plays, including award-winning works and those we have produced for various SOA events.

For more than two decades, SOA Literary Artists have entered the SPARC New Voices for the Theater one-act playwriting competition, and dozens of SOA students have had an opportunity to participate in SPARC’s two-week summer residency during which members of the professional and educational Richmond theater communities work with the playwrights to produce staged readings of their original works. Over the years, we have also staged fully-realized versions of some of these award-winning one-acts at SOA. A few of our students’ plays have even earned recognition at the Virginia Theater Association’s annual convention. As SPARC’s contest was on hiatus during the Covid-19 pandemic, SOA sponsored its first in-house competition to commission student-written one-acts specifically created for SOA and mSAM Theatre Arts class performances.
