     Notes from your School Nurse

    As the School Nurse at GBES, I am proud to be part of a wonderful team that supports your child’s success and well being this year. As I work with you and your child, I will need your assistance in preparing for the possibility that your child may become ill, need medication, or have an accident during school hours.  Please click here for important information:

    Clinic Update:  Changes in School Clinic Visits:

    Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the district nurses, the School Board Office and the Peninsula Health Dept. have implemented strategies to keep both our students and our staff healthy on a daily basis.  Our first line of defense is to keep students home when they are sick. The York County School Division ask “Staff and students complete a Daily Health Screening before coming to school or work, including checking their temperature.”  https://ycsd.yorkcountyschools.org/domain/1280.

    As recommended by the CDC and the Department of Health, it is important to minimize movement of students, educators and staff as much as possible.  Since school clinics are the center of possible infections and contagious diseases, students will not be sent to the clinic unless they have been triaged through the school nurse.  In order to prevent potential exposure to infections and illnesses, staff will be handling non-emergent and non-clinical issues in the classroom. Teachers will contact the nurse if they feel the student needs to be seen and the nurse will travel to their classroom with her mobile medical cart.

    The clinic no longer has extra clothing for the students.  Parents are encouraged to provide an extra set of clothes to keep at school.  The following items are encouraged to keep in your child’s backpack:

    * Snacks        * Hand Sanitizer   * Water Bottle             *  Peppermints/throat lozenge

    * Chap Stick     * Lotion                   * Anti-microbial wipes    * Change of Clothing

    The nurse can no longer accept walk-in appointments for she is taking care of various needs of students.  Please call or email to set up an appointment if you need to drop off any medications or paperwork.

    Please note that appointments will not be made between 11:00 AM - 1:30 PM daily unless pre-arranged.

    Thank you so much for understanding.
