Welcome to Virginia and Tabb Middle School!  As a military spouse, I know firsthand many of the challenges you face as a family who serves.  While reassignments can be a positive experience, frequent moves, extended separations through deployments and reintegration following deployments can be stressful on your family.  Our faculty and staff understand the unique needs of our military students and are committed to supporting you as your family transitions to a new school division.  We will do all we can to make your student’s transition to Tabb Middle School a positive, stress-free experience.  No matter which branch your family serves, we thank you for your service and for protecting our freedoms.  We are honored for you to join our school and appreciate the diverse experiences and qualities your family brings to our community.  Please let us know if there is anything we can do to ease the pressures you may be feeling to make your transition a positive one.

Tabb Middle School seventh grader, Martene Whiting, Jr., was recently selected as the winner of the middle school  category of this year's Veterans Day Essay Contest, sponsored by the Virginia War Memorial. His essay, which won a  statewide contest for middle school students, emphasized how World War I contributed to the civil rights movement. As the winner, Martene and his family attended the annual Veterans Day ceremony at Dogwood Dell on Veterans Day  and Martene read his essay aloud to an audience that included veterans and Governor Ralph Northam.  

TMS had several students place on the local level in the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ (VFW) Patriot’s Pen essay Contest. For 2020 the essay theme was, “What is Patriotism to Me?”  First place winner, Jacob Grieme; second place winner, Jalin Tawari; and third place winner, Sinaya Hairston.  Jacob went on to place second at the district level.   

For the 2021 essay theme of, “How Can I Be a Good American?” Jacob Grieme placed first on the local level once again. Congratulations to all!
