Black College Institute - The Black College Institute is an academic summer enrichment program hosted by Virginia Tech. The program invites high-achieving and academically curious rising high school juniors and seniors. While this program is designed to attract underrepresented students, they welcome the participation of any student who has a potential interest. There is NO COST to attend this program. Black Engineering Excellance at Virginia Tech - Black Engineering Excellence at Virginia Tech (BEE VT) is a two-week summer residential program for rising junior and senior high school students. It offers students an opportunity to explore the many facets of engineering, while also learning about college life--from residence halls to classrooms and everything in-between. While this program is designed to attract underrepresented students, they welcome the participation of any student who has a potential interest in engineering. Click here for more information. Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital Junior Volunteer Program - The administration and staff of Mary Immaculate consider junior volunteers a valuable resource and an asset to their job of caring for the sick and suffering. For that reason, a Junior Volunteer at Mary Immaculate is expected to be the kind of person who has the desire to be of service to others, shows compassion for others, and shows patience in all situations. Carnegie Mellon University Pre-College Programs - The mission of the Carnegie Mellon University Pre-College Programs is to provide high school students with a life-changing, immersive college experience both inside and outside of the classroom. Academic programs include AI Scholars, Architecture, Art, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Design, Drama, Music, Game Academy, and Writing & Culture. Click here for more information. Computers and Technology - C-Tech² is designed for rising junior and senior high school girls and offers an opportunity to learn about college life--from residence halls to classrooms and everything in-between. C-Tech2 is designed to help students explore engineering options and participate in hands-on activities presented by faculty and graduate students from a wide variety of engineering departments. JSA/Jefferson Lab - To be eligible to participate in the JSA/Jefferson Lab High School Summer Program, you must attend a local high school, be 16 years old by the start of the program, be in good academic standing, and maintain at least a 3.5 grade point average. Students who are selected to participate in the JSA/Jefferson Lab High School Summer Program are chosen on the basis of demonstrated skills and merit. Click here for more information. Pathways Flight Academies - Virginia Space Grant Consortium, in partnership with the Commonwealth of Virginia, Averett University, Rick Aviation, Aviation Adventures, and the Virginia Department of Aviation, is offering flight academies for selected high school students statewide in response to the looming national shortage of airline pilots and the growing need for aviation maintenance technicians and air traffic controllers. Pathways for Future Engineers - Pathways for Future Engineers is a multi-year Virginia Tech College of Engineering program designed to support first generation students and their families on the pathway from high school to an engineering degree. The program includes pre-college activities (while students are still in high school) as well as additional support as students pursue their undergraduate degree. Click here for more information. Riverside Summer Junior Volunteer Program - Volunteering with Riverside Regional Medical Center is a rewarding experience with many opportunities. As a volunteer, you will interact and assist with patients, become a part of a great hospital family and work with others to help make a difference in our community. Volunteers work with the public, assist visitors and support members of the health care team throughout the hospital. The program is divided into multiple sessions, each lasting two (2) weeks. Sorensen Institute High School Leaders Program - The Sorensen Institute’s High School Leaders Program (HSLP) is a two-week program that takes place on the grounds of the University of Virginia. Individuals who successfully complete the program earn three hours of graded college credit. HSLP involves a concentrated study in civics, youth leadership, and Virginia politics and government. HSLP is designed for high school students who live and/or attend high school in Virginia. The HSLP is based on a firm belief that young people not only can make a positive difference in their communities, they should be strongly encouraged to do so. Click here for more information. Summer Residential Governor's Schools - Virginia Summer Residential Governor's Schools are programs for current 10th and 11th grade students. The programs are sponsored by the Virginia Department of Education and draw students from across the Commonwealth. Each program lasts approximately one month and is held at a Virginia college/university. The programs are free for students (except for a nominal student activities fee that can be waived based on need). Each school has a school deadline that will be shared by the school counseling office in the fall. Click here for more information. The application submission deadline for 2024 is December 2023.
Summer Volunteer Program at Poquoson Library - Poquoson Library hopes to provide teens age 12+ (who have completed 6th grade) the opportunity to help within their community and experience a gentle introduction to a work environment. Click here for more information. Application period is open.
University of Mary Washington Summer Enrichment - The UMW Summer Enrichment Program is back for this summer. This unique residential program for rising 10th-12th graders will run from July 9-15, 2023! Participants will join UMW professors for three engaging, meaningful courses, some with out-of-class enrichment activities to help students fully explore the content. Choose from a variety of fun and exciting courses for the week taught by UMW Professors, engage in fun enrichment activities throughout the week, get to know UMW and Fredericksburg, and, most importantly, meet new people and have fun! Virginia Latino Higher Education Network - The Virginia Latino Higher Education Network (VALHEN) Hispanic College Institute (HCI) is a FREE 3-day, virtual program that gives rising juniors and seniors in high school the opportunity to learn about the college admissions process while meeting Latinx professionals and engaging with Latinx college students from all over the Commonwealth of Virginia. West Point Summer Leaders Experience (for Juniors) - Led by current cadets, Summer Leaders Experience (SLE) is a week-long immersion into the academic, military, and social life of a West Point cadet. At SLE, you will explore West Point from all angles, including our high-tech educational facilities, team-building athletic activities, and realistic military training. SLE gives you a taste of the character, determination, commitment to excellence, and leadership required to be a cadet at the U.S. Military Academy (USMA). Click here for more information. William & Mary Center Center for Gifted Education Summer Enrichment Program - William & Mary's Summer Enrichment Program is an academically challenging program with an emphasis on inquiry-based learning for students enrolled in grades K-12. The program is not meant to replace the regular school curriculum; rather, it recognizes the importance of allowing able children to explore additional specialized areas of science, mathematics, humanities, and the arts. World Language Academies - The Governor's World Language Academies are sponsored by the Virginia Department of Education. The academies are summer residential programs for Virginia's most motivated and talented world language students. The Governor's Summer Residential World Language Academies include full-immersion academies in French, German and Spanish; a partial-immersion Japanese Academy; and a Latin Academy.
